COLOMBIAN AMBASSADOR VISITS AUROVALLEY

The ties between Colombia and Aurovalley were strengthened with the visit of Colombia's ambassador to India and two diplomats on August 3, 2013.

This was the first time ambassador Juan Alfredo Pinto had come to the ashram after years of hearing about Aurovalley and wanting to visit. He was accompanied by diplomats Pieroangelo Gandini and Francisco Meneses and Oscar Bello also from Colombia.

It was a short stay however the ambassador and diplomats fully involved themselves in the activites we have here at the ashram. Ambassador Pinto even tried out the morning yoga class. The group embraced the peaceful and calming atmosphere of Aurovalley and were in appreciation of a place that is considered a second home to many Colombians.

Next was a tour of the World Temple where ambassador Pinto, diplomats Piero and Francisco and Oscar gave their blessings to the Kadam Tree with water and soil from Colombia. This was followed by a walk though the entire ashram.

Ambassador Pinto thanked Swamiji for his hospitality and promised to stop by again. He also emphasized his enthusiasm for enriching the relationship between India and Colombia and felt that Aurovalley will play an integral part in this growing relationship.

HOW YOU CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE WORLD TEMPLE

It has now been seven months since the initial inauguration of the World Temple on 12-12-12. That eventful day was charged with a harmonious energy which many of you had the opportuinty to experience. However as many of you know the building is not yet complete and so construction to complete the World Temple continues come rain or shine - and these days we have had more rain than shine!
Many of you have yet to see the World Temple while others have seen it when the foundation was being laid. Some of you had the chance to watch the on-going progress just a few months in, others of you saw it for the first time on 12-12-12 and yet some of you have been witness to when Swamiji first struck the Earth marking the beginning of this dream. Whichever one of these people you may be, you are the reason this World Temple is being built - to bring a new consciousness on Earth.

Spontaneous Satsang with Swamiji
We are now in Phase II of this conscious creation. The Tree of Life (Kadam tree), planted on 12-12-12 with the water and soil from around the world, continues to grow beautifully symbolizing the unison of the spirit of mankind. The first floor is almost entirely complete and since January some of the rooms have been occupied by large groups of yoga students, children from primary schools and short and long term integral yoga students. The focus is now on completing the second floor.

Second Floor

The completion of the World Temple is expected for early next year. It is an impressive building which will be able to hold approxiamtely 180 people and will include conference rooms, spaceous halls, sitting areas, a cafe and a reception.

The World Temple will stand as a symbol of world unity and will translate this symbolism into an educational project towards facilitating the evolutionary process so every being will manifest the divine and realize their highest potential.

SWAMIJI'S BIRTHDAY

June 2nd was a special day here at Aurovalley as we celebrated Swamiji's birthday. The day started with meditation in the temple, which was adorned with beautiful flowers and candles, while The Mother's music played in the background.

During Satsang someone asked Swamiji what is special about birthday's and Swamiji gave this example to explain: "Suppose you are trying to touch the ceiling and you try and try but you haven't been able to reach it yet. On your birthday the ceiling will come down a little bit to make it easier for you to reach it. The Divine comes down a little bit for you so you can reach him. The Divine is very near to you on your birthday."

In the evening we had a short program which consisted of a play and singing. This was followed by cake cutting and a delicious dinner. Swamiji received lots emails and phone calls wishing him a happy birthday and of course he was grateful for them all.

Here are a couple of pictures from the day:

GROWING SOULS AT AUROVALLEY SCHOOL

Alejandra's beautiful creation
So the new session began at the beginning of this month. We have 4 teachers each of who are responsible for their class of no more than 10 children. We've begun to incorporate nature, music, physical education and more art in each class and I've already noticed a positive change in some of the children. There's still a lot of work to do and a lot of fundraising to be done so that we can have a 'proper' school building and playground for these beautiful children.

Adding more leaves
With the help of many friends and visitors to Aurovalley, we have cleaned, organized, sewn, painted and put in lots of hours and energy into creating a warm and fun space for the children and teachers of Raiwala.

A big thanks to all who have participated either through donations or volunteering their time. All help has been very much appreciated and it is always welcomed.  Here are some pictures of the last few weeks and the progress we have made.

If you would like to participate in the Aurovalley School Project you can click on the Paypal link below which will direct you to my account (Puja Uppal). All funds go towards building and sustaining the Aurovalley school which hopes to grow conscious souls for a conscious future!

ADOPT A SOUL

As many of you already know, Aurovalley runs a educational program called Adopt a Soul which provides a safe space for children to learn, grow and play in a supportive environment.

Currently about 30 children, between the ages of 4-8, come to Aurovalley six days a week from the surrounding village of Raiwala. Our three teachers, Rakhi, Ritu and Ujita, try their best to establish a learning and loving environment for these children. Occasionally guests of the ashram will volunteer their time at the school and that's always a nice treat for the kids.

As some of you may know, I Puja, have been volunteering my time to help over-see this program and have developed a few new strategies that I believe will help the children to grow in many ways.

One new tool is, each week the teachers will be given three to four English words which they will teach to all the children. This will then be followed by an art workshop incorporating the words so the kids don't forget them. This past week was our first try. One of the words was pig so with the help of a guest, we made pig snouts (she did most of the hard labour) and the kids then got to paint them any colour they wished. It was a fun afternoon, although a little messy, but the kids seemed to enjoy getting their hands dirty and doing something different. [Pictures below]

We have also established a program to get the kids motivated and excited about learning. Everday the teachers will give a checkmark to those students who were well behaved (shared with others, listened to the teachers, participated in class, etc.) tried hard with their school work and made improvements from the day before. At the end of the week, the top three students will get a prize from the 1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place bag, respectively.

To sustain these new programs and keep the children thriving is where our Aurovalley family comes in!

If you would like to contribute to a bright future for the children of Aurovalley you can do so by participating in our Adopt a Soul program. This program includes all aspects of sustaining and improving the school including providing transport for the children to get to and from Aurovalley safely, educational and art supplies for the school, developing and maintaining educational programs, salary for the teachers, and funds to reconstruct the original school building.

How to Participate?

1. Contribution to Aurovalley (All donations are exempt from income tax under section 80G of the Income Tax Act, and can be made by cash, money order, check, or deposited in favor of Aurovalley Ashram Society)

TWO TESTIMONIALS FROM JANUARY

Dear Swamiji and everyone at Aurovalley,

Thank you so much for providing a nurturing and supportive environment where I could carry out my spiritual evolution. My time here has been life-altering – Diving, wonderful, challenging and expanding. This is a place of Divine Grace and I will never forget it and I hope on coming back for an extended stay.

With sincerity & gratitude,
Jenna Pacelli

Aurovalley…what a place! Not only for spiritual development but also for a break from how hectic travelling can be. The property heals by being far removed from cities and cultivating a space for birds and other wildlife. And the people – they people make Aurovalley what it is. Both the staff and other guests…I stayed two weeks and thoroughly enjoyed the close-knit community. It became family. Be sure to give yourself enough time at the ashram to get into the routine of meditation and yoga twice a day, delicious vegetarian meals and satsang – where Swamiji shares all his conscious wisdom. If I could stay longer, I most definitely would!

So grateful for this experience…

DELHI UNIVERSITY STUDENTS VISIT AUROVALLEY

Aurovalley was very pleased to welcome 15 sociology post-graduate students and one professor from Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University last week. The group quickly and efficiently emerged themselves into the flow of life here at the ashram.

JNU students in Satsang (Q&A with Swamiji)
They were enthusiastic as they picked up brooms and rakes to rid the grounds of fallen leaves and dust. A dynamic and vibrant bunch they were very respectful of the silence we encourage here at Aurovalley.  The students who are from different backgrounds have come together under a shared affinity for the arts including poetry, prose, music and a shared value for exploring the unexplored including themselves.

The group presents Swamiji with a book of poems

They call this group The Tree Club. Before this group left Aurovalley they presented Swamiji with a beautifully written book of poems and two of the members sang beautiful songs with just the sweetness of their voices and the chords of a guitar. A few students then shared their thoughts and feelings about Aurovalley. It was a wonderful treat for all of us as we sat in the sun and listened to the gratitude this group felt towards Aurovalley and Swamiji. And it was a blessing to have such an open and receptive group come and experience the ‘School of Life’.
